Breakfast for Dinner, A Little Unexpected

A little imagination can make the ordinary feel special and the familiar feel new. You don't need complicated food, precious dishes, or an extraordinary occasion—just a willingness to see everyday things a little differently.

01 | Make the Familiar Unexpected

The Thinking Behind It: You don't need a complicated menu to create a special occasion. Sometimes changing when, where, or how you serve something familiar is enough.

02 | Let Color Do the Work

The Thinking Behind It: A simple foundation gives you freedom to experiment with color and pattern. Change one element, and you can change the feeling of the entire table.

03| Rethink the Way You Use Things

The Thinking Behind It: Before buying something new, look at what you already own and ask how else it might be used. An unexpected shape or a different purpose can make familiar pieces feel entirely new.

04| Make the Beauty Last

One of my favorite things about keeping flower arrangements low is that they can find a second home after the gathering ends.

These simple grocery-store hydrangeas moved from the breakfast table to other rooms around the house, bringing a little beauty to the days that followed.

With fresh water, flower food, and a little extra attention to the hydrangeas, I was able to enjoy them well beyond the meal.

The Thinking Behind It: Think beyond the occasion. Choose flowers, vessels, and arrangements that can move easily from the table to other spaces. A little planning allows one beautiful moment to become several.
